I Just Got So Much More Annoying
Feb 18, 2008
I bought a new computer on Friday. A Mac.
My Dell's death rattle suddenly stopped Thursday and the computer got all eerily silent. I switched it off to give it some chill time, and when I came back to turn it on a little later I was greeted with, "CPU FAN NOT DETECTED. PRESS F2 TO BOOT ANYWAY."
Despite the fact that fans are pretty easy and cheap to replace, I took this slight malfunction as all the reason I needed to go out and get the spanking new machine I'd been thinking about for months.
I think it was around November/December that I decided my next computer would be a Mac, partly because of all the bad press Vista was getting and also partly because dammit, the Mac guy in those "I'm a PC/I'm a Mac" commercials was just so much durn hipper than the PC guy, and I want to be cool and not lame. Mostly, though, it seemed so much easier to get a Mac because if I wanted another PC I would have to decide if I should get another Dell, or some other brand, and then when I decided all of that I would have to choose from like 9,000 different models within the brand, and then I would have to figure out who had it on sale for the cheapest, and all of that takes effort, and I don't really do effort.
Buying a Mac, on the other hand, means you just have to pick from about four options, at least two of which are out of your price range anyway. It saves so much time and energy--time and energy I can now spend on dressing in monochromatic outfits, being hip, and scoffing at PC people.
